Summer is supposed to feel easy, right? But honestly, all the little things still pile up.

Reusable bags, sunscreen, water bottles, returns, donations, cottage stuff… all the things we mean to remember somehow end up scattered everywhere or rolling around in the car.

One simple thing I always come back to in the summer is a car kit.

Nothing fancy. Just a tote, bin, or basket in the trunk.

It makes errands, appointments, day trips, cottage runs, and donation drop-offs feel so much easier.

What to Keep in a Summer Car Kit

Think about the stuff you’re always looking for as you’re heading out the door.

A simple summer car kit might include:

  • reusable shopping bags
  • a water bottle
  • tissues or wipes
  • sunscreen
  • bug spray
  • a phone charger
  • a small umbrella
  • a sweater
  • a basic first-aid kit
  • a bag for returns or donations

If you’re helping a parent or thinking ahead for yourself, it can also be helpful to add:

  • an emergency contact card
  • a current medication list
  • a small notebook and pen for appointments
  • an extra pair of reading glasses
  • a folder for paperwork or forms

The idea isn’t to turn your car into a storage unit. It’s just about having the right things on hand so you’re not scrambling every time you leave the house.

Add One “Going Out” Bag

If you always seem to have things waiting to leave the house, try keeping one bag by the door or in the car.

This can be for returns, library books, donations, things to give back to family, or stuff heading to the cottage.

Instead of letting it pile up by the door, everything has one place to go.

A Quick Laundry Tip for Summer

Summer laundry has a way of spreading everywhere.

Towels, gardening clothes, pool stuff, cottage laundry, extra bedding… it all ends up on chairs, floors, or in random piles.

Pick one small reset. Maybe it’s a basket by the door for lake or pool towels. Maybe it’s a spot to hang damp things. Maybe it’s finally letting go of those old towels that aren’t really doing the job anymore.

Little systems like this just make the house feel easier without needing everything to be perfect.

Keep It Simple

You don’t have to organize your whole home to make summer feel calmer.

Just start with one thing that solves a real problem. Maybe it’s the car kit, the laundry basket or one donation bag by the door.

Simple systems work best when they’re easy to use and easy to keep up with.

If your home could use a bit of a summer reset, I’d love to help you figure out what would actually work for your space and your life.
