I see this happen all the time. When someone decides to sell or downsize, their to-do list quickly develops. They start painting walls, replacing old appliances like the dishwasher, fixing the patio, updating lighting, and repairing longstanding issues.

Once the decluttering is done and the house is staged, they look around and say, "I really like my house now," and then they move. If you think you might sell or downsize in the next five years, look around your home. Do you already know what repairs or updates need to be done? If they are within your budget, consider addressing some sooner.

You might as well enjoy the fresh paint, the working dishwasher, the updated patio, or the rooms that finally feel organized.

This doesn't mean doing a major renovation because you might move one day. It means making the improvements you already know would make your home easier and more enjoyable to live in.

Decluttering is similar; you don't have to wait for the 'For Sale' sign. Removing items you no longer use can immediately make your home feel more spacious and practical.

When the time eventually comes to sell, you'll also be in a much better position. Instead of rushing through years of repairs, organization, and decluttering, you can focus on the final touches that prepare your home for the market.

Your home shouldn't just look its best for the next occupant. You deserve to enjoy it, too. If you're planning to downsize or move within the next few years, I can help you start preparing now, taking it one manageable step at a time.
